Sam's Room (Before & After)

The work on Sam's room has been slow with having Henry to take care of, but most of the hard stuff is done. Now I just need to finish it off with the accessories and storage. Here's what we've done so far:

We painted the walls a really cool steel gray color, with one wall being a bright orange accent wall. We didn't want it to look like a dungeon, but instead wanted a very sleek, simple, modern look. The first thing people say when they see his room is, "Wow, he lives simply doesn't he?" Really, all Sam does in his room is sleep, play Xbox, and watch tv before bed. He doesn't like a lot of junk laying around in his space, and neither do I. He is a smart boy and knows it's much easier to clean that way!

Obviously we haven't done anything with these walls yet besides paint them. We are going to frame a few more posters for these walls, and I'm going to paint a wood frame and hang his guitar in it on the wall.  The tv will be mounted on the corner wall and I'm going to try to find a plush chair for the corner. Yard sales, here we come.

I spraypainted all of his frames white, along with his wall shelves. It was so inexpensive and really created a clean, modern feel. Notice the nicely framed "Dumb and Dumber" poster. We love that movie at our house!

I grouped together all of his signed football items. Before they were just scattered throughout the room with no rhyme or reason. With the similar frames, they are much more interesting and noticeable. The shelf is spraypainted and I removed the knobs that were little footballs.
He wanted to try his bed off of the frame. He loves it. He also loves his collectable Mountain Dew bottles that are displayed on the shelf above it. I don't quite get that, but it is HIS room and not mine! He has a nightstand to the left of the bed that I also spraypainted (not pictured).

Here is the before picture:

We still have to: paint all of the trim and woodwork white, find window treatments, better lighting, and storage for his games and movies. The total cost to do over his room was........$45.00!!! It was $40.00 for the paint and $5 for the spraypaint. I did have to prime the orange accent wall, but we already had the primer. Now that is budget decorating! What do you think?

Love the colors! The white accents really pop against the gray wall.

My brother has a collection of Mountain Dew and Coke bottles, so I guess it's a guy thing. :)

Looks great I love that grey color, which is such a hard color to get "right". What color and brand is it?

I have the same collection of Mt. Dew bottles too...

I really like the sleek clean look of Sam's room. The colors are amazing, great combo. Do you have any idea how lucky you are that your teen age boy doesn't like a lot of stuff laying around. Many years ago that was NOT the case with my son, but today in his own house he's a neat freak! Nice job!
